London, July 19 (EFE).- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has itted it would be “hard work” to deal with Donald Trump if he wins the US presidential race.
Before speaking at a British government meeting in London on Friday, the Ukrainian president expressed his willingness to work with whoever is in power in the US after the presidential election in November.
It Trump is re-elected as US president, it will be “hard work, but we are hard workers,” Zelenskyy told BBC.
The Ukrainian president’s remarks came after Trump announced that Ohio Senator JD Vance will be his running mate in the November vote.
Vance, 39, has said in the past that he “doesn’t care what happens to Ukraine.”
Vance’s candidacy for vice president has renewed concerns that US commitment with Ukraine could fade if the Republican politician returns to the White House.
“Maybe he really doesn’t understand what goes on in Ukraine, so we have to work with the United States,” Zelenskyy said.
He also noted that he does not expect the UK’s position towards Ukraine, under the new British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to change.
“But I would like for Prime Minister Starmer to become special – speaking about international politics, about defending world security, about the war in Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian leader is in the United Kingdom to attend a meeting of the European Political Community (EPC), where he delivered a speech on Thursday afternoon.
The EPC includes 27 of the European Union (EU) and 20 non- like the UK. EFE
