“I am very glad to see you. We have the opportunity to discuss the whole range of our relations, we have not seen each other for a long time,” Putin told Al-Assad during the meeting in the Kremlin on Wednesday night.

The two leaders last met on Mar. 15, 2023, also in the Kremlin.

“I am very interested in your opinion on how the situation in the region as a whole is developing. Unfortunately, it tends to worsen, we see this. This also directly concerns Syria,” he added.

In turn, Al-Assad stressed the importance of his meeting with Putin.

“Considering all the events that are taking place today in the world as a whole and in the Eurasian region, our meeting today seems very important for discussing all the details of the development of these events, for discussing possible prospects and scenarios,” he said.

The Syrian president added that in recent decades Russia and Syria have gone through “very difficult tests” but emphasized that relations between both countries “have maintained their level of trust”, which he said was “an indicator of the maturity” of their citizens.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the official Russian agency TASS on Thursday that no document was signed at the meeting between the leaders. EFE
