Bomb blast in Pakistan kills 2 children, injures 12

Islamabad, Aug 24 (EFE).– A bomb planted on a motorbike killed two children and injured 12 people, including two traffic wardens, on Saturday in the restive Balochistan province, police said.

The explosion occurred at the main square of the Pishin city near the court complex.

“A bomb planted on a motorbike exploded, killing two children and injuring 12 people, including two traffic wardens,” police officer Ateeq Ullah told EFE.

The officer said the children killed and the injured were pedestrians, while the traffic wardens were on duty.

The injured were taken to Pishin Civil Hospital. “Four of the injured, including the two policemen, are in critical condition and have been referred to Quetta after receiving initial treatment in Pishin,” Ullah added.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the site to collect evidence for further investigation. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind condemned the attack and expressed regret over the loss of lives. “Anti-society and anti-state elements do not deserve any concession,” he said.

“Terrorists are targeting innocent people to achieve their nefarious goals.”

Balochistan has long been plagued by an armed insurgency, with various armed groups fighting the central government in Islamabad for independence. These insurgent groups accuse Islamabad of exploiting the province’s rich mineral resources. EFE
