Trump wants Ukraine’s rare earth elements in exchange for aid

Washington, Feb 3 (EFE).- United States President Donald Trump said he wants Ukraine to give the US rare earth key minerals for technological innovations ranging from electric vehicles and wind turbines to advanced aircraft in exchange for further aid from Washington on Monday.

“We’re looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they’re going to secure what we’re giving them with their rare earth and other things. I want to have security of rare earth,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, insisting that Ukraine should give Washington something in return for the aid it provides.

According to Trump, former President Joe Biden never asked for anything and only “gave them money,” referring to the more than 180 billion dollars in military and other aid the US has given Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.

According to the president, the European Union is not keeping up with the US regarding the aid to Ukraine, and this needs to be “rebalanced.”

Before arriving at the White House, Trump called for an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine, which has not yet been achieved.

He has also said he hopes to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin to “end the war” in Ukraine. EFE
