Cairo, Mar 27 (EFE).- At least six people died and nine others were injured after a tourist submarine sank off Egypt’s popular Red Sea coastal town of Hurghada, local newspaper Al Masry Al Youm reported Thursday.

At least four of the six dead are Russian nationals and the injured and the rest of the 29 people who were on the submarine and were rescued are foreign nationals, authorities from the Red Sea Governorate confirmed in a statement, without providing further details about other nationalities.

Four of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital in the Al-Kawther area of Hurghada, they added.

The tourist submarine “Sinbad” was on a routine trip from one of the town’s beaches with 45 people on board when it suffered a technical failure in its engines, causing it to sink.
