Yemen’s Sana’a airport indefinitely suspends all flights after Israeli strikes

Sana’a, May 7 (EFE).- Yemen’s Sana’a International Airport suspended all operations indefinitely as of Wednesday morning, a day after Israeli strikes, which caused “extensive damage” to the infrastructure, its general director, Khaled al-Shaif, reported.

Al-Shaif said in a post on X that due to the “Zionist aggression against Sana’a International Airport and the resulting extensive damage, it has been decided to suspend all flights to and from the airport until further notice.”

Shortly after, in statements reported by the Houthi-owned Al-Masirah television channel, Al-Shaif indicated that the losses from the attack amounted to approximately $500 million.

Yemen’s national carrier, Yemen Airways, had already suspended all flights on Tuesday after Israeli attacks destroyed several of its planes, witnesses told EFE.

Yemen Airways operated only two flights a day between Sana’a and Amman, the only direct international destination from the Yemeni capital, which is controlled by the insurgents.

The Israeli attacks on the airport, a cement factory, and three power plants in Sana’a left at least three people dead and more than 50 injured.

These Israeli strikes came in response to the ballistic missile launched by the Houthis three days ago at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, which caused minor damage and injured several people, and after threats of retaliation by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. EFE
